Asantehene Assigns First Task to Nkoranzahene at First Akwasidae
At the first Akwasidae Festival of the year at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi, Nana Kwame Baffoe IV, the Nkoranzahene, was assigned his first task by the Asantehene.
The first son of the King- traditionally- was delegated the task of welcoming the President of Ghana to the Manhyia Palace on behalf of his father during the celebration of the festival at the Dwabrem grounds on January 19, 2025.
This was after the President had gone to greet and pay homage to the King by way of announcing his presence as the Guest of Honour.
In accordance with tradition, the King had to welcome him with drinks and water.
In his stead, he delegated his son who took the oath of allegiance on Monday, January 13, 2025, to do the welcoming.
Nana Kwame Baffoe proudly and successfully assumed the responsibility.
Unequalled
While taking the oath of allegiance, Otumfuo made known to Oheneba Kwame Baffoe, Nkoranzahene his pedigree and status among other traditional authorities within the Asante Kingdom.
He noted that as a son of the Asantehene, he is merited above all others having rare access and opportunities with the King.
In simple terms, His Majesty stressed that Nkoranzahene is unequalled.
“You are my son and no one equals you. As has already been said, you come to me at your convenience and use some special jargon no one else can.”
Nkoranza, seized from Ameyaw in a battle by Asantehene Opoku Ware, was entrusted to the descendants of Oheneyere Sarponmaa, the niece of the then Amakomhene.
The male and female stools have since been occupied by the sons and daughters of the Asantehene. As such, male leaders are given the title “Oheneba” and are honoured as sons of Asantehene.
The eldest son of Otumfuo Opoku Ware and Sarponmaa was Baffoe Pim who was the first to ascend the Nkoranza male stool.
