Nkoranzahene Swears Allegiance to Asantehene

Nana Kwame Baffoe, Nkoranzahene, has taken the solemn oath of allegiance to stay faithful to Asanteman and the occupant of the Golden Stool.

He took the oath on Monday, January 13, 2025, at the first Asanteman Council meeting of the year, giving him the needed recognition and legitimacy to reign on the stool in accordance with tradition.

As part of counsel given by the Paramount chiefs and Divisions, he was encouraged to leverage the abounding natural resources in his town and collaborate with the relevant authorities to spur development.

He was warned against desecrating the Great Oath.

“Unite all factions in your realm and use the Manhyia Palace as your lecture hall to get the requisite knowledge on traditional leadership.”

Nana Baffoe a few years ago was enstooled as chief of the town; however, it was annulled as illegitimate as he had disregarded tradition.

In his address, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Asantehene, refused to blame Nana Baffoe for his disregard for tradition initially.

“Many thought he (the new chief) could trample on tradition and prevail, but he can’t. He had no idea of the history behind the stool. He was only pushed to go for the stool without recourse to tradition but then along the line, he realized his mistake and went back to take the right path.”

“He (new chief) has come to know that Nkoranza belongs to Asantehene and therefore chooses whomever he deems fit to ascend the stool. While he (the new chief) carried himself out as the chief without my blessings, he never felt the authority that comes with it. Today, I give you the right to reign over the town. Lead with humility.”

Nana Baffoe’s request to take the oath was therefore upheld and he was given the Mpomponsuo sword to swear to be faithful to the Asantehene.
