Produce Evidence to Back Referee Misconduct Claims; Dreams to Lions
Dreams Football Club have thrown a challenge at the Accra Lions over their claims of professional misconduct by the referee who officiated their game last Sunday.
The Lions lost by 1-0 to Dreams FC worsening their woes as they wobble in the relegation zone with 13 points after 16 games.
They blamed poor officiation for the outcome and renumerated several implications it has and could have on the country’s football, in a press statement.
In reaction to this, Dreams chastised their colleague Ghana Premier League club for dragging the league into the gutters, adding that the match was played in a “highly competitive spirit underpinned by true sportsmanship”.
“We are unaware of any formal complaints lodged against officials in last Sunday’s game and not a single incident of poor refereeing has thus been referenced- further exposing the very questionable motives of our fellow GPL Club,” Dreams said in a statement.
They thus challenged them to produce evidence to support their misconduct claims against the officiating officials.
“Officials who have been found not to have discharged their duties professionally have been handed various forms of punishment. We therefore encourage all stakeholders with compelling evidence of wrongdoing particularly relative to officiating to use the right channel to seek redress.”
Meanwhile, they criticized Lions for keeping mute in instances where they benefited from officiation decisions that were deemed foul by opponents.
“It is very true that while we continue to improve on all facets of our games, the club’s may continue to be either beneficiaries of casualties of decisions of match officials considered to be poor as pointed out by many in Accra Lions’ previous league match against Hearts of Oak. It is therefore very strange that our fellow GPL club did not find the strength to publicly acknowledge the benefits and/or the damaging effects of the refereeing decisions then.”
