Afua Asantewaa Completes Second Sing-a-thon Attempt

Afua Asantewaa Aduonum has drawn the curtain on her second attempt for the Guinness World Records (GWR) for the longest singing marathon by an individual.

After last year’s failure, she decided to go at it again, this time around, in Kumasi in the Ashanti Region.

She set the ball rolling on December 21 and sang continuously for 121 hours 39 minutes at the Heroes Park.

The journalist by profession received the support of celebrities and residents in the course of the attempt.

“I just wanted to take a moment to express my heartfelt gratitude to each and every one of you for your amazing support during my Guinness World Records Longest Singing Marathon Individual attempt.

“Your energy, your encouragement, and your love fueled my spirit and gave me the strength to push through the challenges. Thank you for believing in me and for being part of this incredible journey. I am so proud to have represented Ghana on the global stage, and I am honoured to have shared this experience with all of you,” she said in a Facebook post after completing the attempt.

In the previous year, Afua began on December 24 and ended on December 28, singing Ghanaian songs for an impressive and a straight 126 hours 53 minutes in the quest to break India’s Sunil Waghmare’s record of 105 hours in 2012.

The attempt was unsuccessful. In a reply to enquiries about the outcome of the attempt, GWR disclosed that it was unsuccessful.

“Unfortunately Afua’s Guinness World Records attempt for the longest singing marathon was not successful, but we hope that she will make another attempt soon. We’ve seen how inspirational it has been for her fans.

“The evidence check had already begun before Afua requested priority service, so we refunded her payment earlier this month. We wish Afua the best of luck with any future record attempts,” the world records keeper announced.

She is however optimistic that her second attempt will go down in the annals of the records keeper.
