Five Offices of Saglemi Housing Project Burnt
Five offices being used for the Saglemi Housing project have been razed down by fire.
The fire which erupted on Tuesday evening was successfully contained from spreading to the housing units by personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) from Sege and Devtraco Fire Stations.
However, all the contents of the offices were consumed by the flames.
According to the GNFS, the fire was completely doused at 2102 Hrs after the call was received at 1752Hrs.
“Fire Involved five (5) Forty Foot Containers Used as Offices for the Saglemi Housing Project.” it said, confirming that the “Containers and its contents being Totally Burnt.”
Meanwhile, it said there were no casualties.
The cause of the fire is yet to be determined by the Service though some Ghanaians suspect that it was an arson to hide evidence from the Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) team set up by the incoming President to investigation corruption by the outgoing government.
There is however no evidence to these claims.
Saglemi Housing Project
The project for the housing units started in 2012 to provide affordable housing for Ghanaians and address the country’s housing deficit.
The Saglemi Affordable Housing project located at Prampram in the Ningo Prampram District of the Greater Accra Region was originally meant to be a 5000-residential unit facility with one to three-bedroom flats.
The project stalled after the erstwhile administration was voted out of office, with the Akufo-Addo government fingering some former officials for procurement breaches following the value-for-money audit.
According to the government, the project approved by Parliament in October 2012 for the construction of 5,000 housing units, was reviewed downward to 1,500 units and later to 1,024 units.
