Plans Underway to Secure Your Financial Welfare; Asantehene to His Queens

The Monarch of the Asante Kingdom, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has assured Queens within his kingdom of the requisite review to include them in the financial benefits that stools and properties in traditional areas bring.

At a party with Queens organized by his wife, Lady Julia, on December 22, 2024, the King reiterated that measures are underway to secure the financial welfare of queens.

Otumfuo is determined to secure their financial welfare, recognizing that its absence is causing tensions with their chiefs.

His Majesty in his remarks acknowledged queens are shortchanged financially and is determined to change the narrative with a review of traditional policy in the coming year.

According to him, they will either be allotted some properties around the stool or would be added as beneficiaries of land proceeds.

“I will put measures in place to secure your finances. The last time I was saying that queens are cheated in financial benefits so they resort to dubiously giving the male stools to their biological sons. But you can also bear witness that in such instances, there might be people who may be more competent to ascend the stool than your son.

“I will put appropriate measures in place to secure your financial welfare. Either a property will be allocated to you, or you will be given a fixed percentage in land proceeds like all other beneficiaries. I will do this for peace to reign.”

This was the third time the King publicly addressed this issue which he deems as a significant concern and in need of immediate attention. The first was during the last meeting of the Ashanti Regional House of Chiefs of the year in November.

His second address about it was at the last meeting of the Asanteman Council of the year at the Manhyia Palace.
