GAF Arrests Military Imposter

A young man has been arrested by the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) for impersonating a military officer.

The said man was captured in a viral video wearing Ghana Navy vest, displaying other military items in a room and alleging that President-elect, His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, intends to sack all soldiers who were recruited into the Ghana Armed Forces through protocol means.

The Forces in a statement said further investigations revealed that the man identified as Alex Cobbinah and a resident of Madina Zongo Junction in Accra has uploaded several other videos on social media wearing military accoutrements, pretending to be a soldier.

He was subsequently arrested by the military police and handed over to the Ghana Police Service for further investigation and prosecution.

“The Military Police commenced investigations and successfully located and arrested the individual involved.”

“The Military Police has subsequently handed over Alex Cobbinah to the Ghana Police Service for further investigations and possible prosecution to serve as a deterrent to others,” it added.

It emphasised the National Liberation Council Decree (LCD) 177 of 1967 explicitly bans the illegal use of military accoutrements.

Additionally, it justified that the misuse of military attire can facilitate impersonation and enable criminal activities, posing a serious threat to public safety.

“In light of the security implications of these illegal acts, we urge the public to report any suspicious activities involving unauthorised military attire.”
