Many Chiefs Are Ignorant About Asante Traditions- Otumfuo

The King of the Asante Kingdom, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has observed with concern, the level of ignorance on the part of some traditional authorities in his realm about the customs and traditions of the Kingdom.

From traditional practices to rites, he observes ignorance at its highest peak.

As such, Otumfuo plans to organize a workshop for all traditional authorities in the next year.

Though the date for the event was not announced, it will be held at the Otumfuo Osei Tutu II Jubilee Hall at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi in the Ashanti Region.

It will offer comprehensive and in-depth knowledge of the customs, traditions and rites of Asanteman to the traditional leaders.

“Another thing is the custom and tradition of Asante. Many chiefs don’t know our customs and traditions. We need to hold a workshop to teach all that. Many of them have no idea how to dress, or do things they don’t have to. We will look at all that. What was instituted by our forefathers hasn’t changed,” he said during an Asanteman Council meeting on December 16, 2024.

“Many chiefs don’t know how their stools were created and what role they play in Asanteman. We have to teach all that. Some chiefs have established replica stools without proper knowledge.”

Such stools, His Majesty said, are the Sanaa stool, Akyempim stool, Atipin stool and many others.
