We Had a Cordial Meeting; Mahama after Honouring Presidency Invite

President-elect John Dramani Mahama had what he chose to term as a “cordial” engagement with President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo after honouring his invitation to the Jubilee House on December 11.

The meeting was part of plans for the transition to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government.

Addressing the media after the meeting, the former President shared, “Mr. President has given me a brief on the security situation, both internal and external, and also a short brief on issues having to do with the economy. The transitional teams will drill down further into these matters, and we are going to work together in the interest of Ghana to ensure a seamless transition.”

Meanwhile, President Akufo-Addo Addo assured the media that efforts are underway to hand over the country under an appropriate condition.

“I assure him [John Dramani Mahama] of my full support and that of my government over the transitional process to make sure that his administration takes off in the best of conditions,” he stated.

In a Facebook post, Mr Mahama expressed satisfaction with the reception at the seat of the Presidency, calling the meeting “cordial”.

“I responded to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s invitation for a courtesy visit to the Presidency this morning to begin the transition process. We had a cordial meeting, and the President briefed me on security and the economy.”

“I also expressed my sincerest appreciation to the President for his phone call on Monday to congratulate me. It was a good mark of statesmanship, giving me a sense of déjà vu.”

He announced efforts are underway to inaugurate the Joint Transition Team later today.

Mr Mahama in his perspective judged, “Democracy and Ghana are the winners following the electoral process. Despite all the anxieties people had ahead of the election and voting day, Ghana has done it again.

“We can be sure that our democracy is safe, and by working together across bipartisan lines, we can continue to deepen and consolidate it.”
