Asanteman Sees Off Last Akwasidae Festival
The ultimate Akwasidae Festival of 2024 has been held at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi, Ashanti Region.
The King of the Asante Kingdom, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II marked it on December 8, a day after the country’s Presidential and Parliamentary elections.
His Majesty was joined by people from across the country and beyond, including Nananom, the Regional Security Council (REGSEC) led by Regional Minister Simon Osei Mensah, the National Democratic Congress (NDC), and the leadership of Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).
Also present were some Court of Appeal Judges, Former Ghana Bar Association (GBA) President, Lawyer Yaw Boafo, Royal Golf Club and Ghana Golfers Association and the Fourth Garrison Officers Mess Keep Fit Clubs.
The festival was an occasion to pay homage to the King.
Appreciation
The NDC led by former Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr Samuel Sarpong represented former President John Dramani Mahama at the event.
“Today is the last Akwasidae Festival. This morning, Otumfuo’s son- the incoming President- called me and directed me to come and represent him here. Mr Mahama sent us to extend his greatest gratitude to the King because it’s by his prayers he has emerged victorious in the elections.”
He also assured of the President-elect’s commitment to fulfilling his promise of developing the Ashanti Region.
Heal KATH Donation
The Fourth Garrison Officers Mess Keep Fit Club donated and amount of GHc150,000 into the account of the Heal Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) Committee to support the quest to give the medical facility a facelift.
“We all know the state of KATH and Otumfuo mounted an advocacy for its renovation. We are here with an amount of GHC150,000,” Mr Akwasi Badu, the President of the Club announced.
Life Patron Request
The Club also used the opportunity to request the King to be its Life Patron.
The objective, the President said was to be able to receive the much-needed direction, counsel and support for the thriving of the Club.
