2024 Elections: Polls End in Less Than an Hour
The Presidential and Parliamentary polls of Ghana will come to a close at 5 pm.
Voting has been taking place across 40,648 polling stations in 276 Constituencies with pickets of shooting incidents, and electoral malpractices by both voters and Electoral Commission (EC) officials.
This year, a total of 18,774,159 people were registered to vote in the elections.
In a notice, the Commission reminded the public that the polls will close at exactly 5 pm on December 7.
It however noted that persons who would be in queues at the stroke of the fifth hour would be allowed to vote.
“Remember: Polls close at 5 pm,” it said in one notice and then added in another post, “You will be allowed to vote once you are in the queue by 5 pm.”
There has been low voter turnout generally.
In her recent briefing the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Jean Mensah said her outfit had recorded 50% voter turnout as of 2 pm.
