I Have Strictly Followed Your Instructions; Bawumia to Otumfuo
Vice President and 2024 Presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has recounted to the King of the Asante Kingdom, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, how honourable he went about his campaign in accordance with his instructions.
At the Manhyia Palace on Thursday, December 5, 2024, he proudly informed Otumfuo that he campaigned across the 276 constituencies in the country shunning insults.
Standing before Nananom, he recalled how Otumfuo counselled him to desist from the use of derogatory remarks in his campaign and focus on advocating his policies and works.
“I have come just as I came here to take Otumfuo’s blessings, prayers and counsel ahead of the NPP Presidential primaries. He blessed me and counselled me. I went and emerged victorious. I came back to thank him and sought his blessings and counsel the second time to emerge victorious in the country’s Presidential election. He (Otumfuo) advised me to tell the masses what I can do, be truthful and desist from insults. I followed the counsel to the letter.”
“I have been to 276 constituencies. I have engaged pastors, imams, traders and others about what I have done and intend to do.”
Blessings
He used the occasion to seek the blessings of the King in the lead up to the election.
“I bring my campaign to an end today so I decided to end here because I started here. I had to come to seek your prayer for victory. After today we will be left with 24 hours to the election.”
He further used the occasion to urge electorates to go out in their numbers and vote massively for the NPP.
“I urge all to go out in their numbers and vote massively for us.”
Commendation
The Asantehene commended the Vice President for heeding his advice.
“You came here when you embarked on your Presidential aspiration to inform me about and embark on a campaign across the country. I advised you and a report of that is what you just gave me.”
“I thank God you were able to follow my counsel,” the King stated.
Ultimate Decision
Otumfuo further emphasized that the elect for the Presidential seat now resides in the hand of God.
