The former First lady is in the Ashanti Region on a campaign trail to garner support for her husband in the upcoming general election. She looks forward to engaging market women and interacting with them about policies specially carved out for them.
As tradition demands, she visited the Manhyia Palace to seek the permission and blessings of the Queen before embarking on her agenda.
She was accompanied by the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NDC, Nana Akwasi Andrews, former Deputy Defence Minister, Ken Agyei, Ashanti Regional women’s Organiser, Gloria Huze, the Deputy National Communication Director of the NDC, Obuobia Darko Opoku, former Education Minister, Betty Mould Iddrisu and female parliamentary candidates of NDC in the Ashanti Region.
In her address, Mrs Mahama expressed her appreciation for the warm welcome by the Palace.
“We came to pay homage. I couldn’t come here without coming to pay a visit to my mother and the owner of the land. His son John Dramani Mahama is standing again for Presidency so I had to come to my mother and inform her about the great task ahead of us so she could pray and bless us.”
“I want to go into the various markets and interact with the women in her Kingdom to give my husband a second chance.”
She also expressed her gratitude for the unconditional love the Queen has for her and her husband.
“We cherish your love towards us.”
