Konongo: Two Dead, Others Injured In Accident
Two people have been killed in a tragic accident involving a fuel tanker and a Hyundai Elantra at Konongo, located in the Asante Akim Central Municipality of the Ashanti Region.
According to the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), the incident occurred on the evening of Wednesday, November 6, 2024, when the fuel tanker’s brakes failed. The tanker collided with four vehicles before smashing into the Hyundai Elantra, resulting in the deaths of its two occupants.
The two victims in the Hyundai Elantra died at the scene, while seven others were injured and rushed to the Konongo Government Hospital.
Peter Addai, the Public Relations Officer for the GNFS in the Ashanti Region, confirmed the incident to Citi News.
He stated, “The accident, which involved a fuel tanker, a Hyundai Elantra, a Toyota, and one other vehicle, occurred near Mark Zenith Company Limited on the Kumasi-Accra Highway. Two people lost their lives, and two others were seriously injured.”
Addai added that the total number of people involved in the accident was nine, with seven individuals being rescued by bystanders and sent to the hospital.
“We have handed over the bodies of the deceased to the police for further action,” he said.
The police have launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the accident, and the bodies of the victims have been deposited at the morgue.
