Kotoko Taste First Season Defeat Against Struggling Cities
Asante Kotoko marked their first season defeat on Wednesday at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium against struggling Legon Cities.
This went down as Coach Paa Kwesi Fabin’s side’s first season win after eight games played this season.
Defender Joseph Amoah opened the scoring in the 24th minute and held on till the end of the first half. The Porcupines managed to level the scoreline through Albert Amoah in the 75th minute but an injury time goal delivered to the Accra-based Club their first season victory to shift them from the bottom of the log to the 17th place with five points.
This result also ended Kotoko’s unbeaten stint in the season to hand them their first defeat leaving them in second place with 15 points.
In a post-match press conference, head coach Prosper Narteh Ogum admitted his boys faltered in the second half.
According to him, lack of concentration motivated their defeat.
“Not the best of ways especially when you look at the second half, it shouldn’t have happened but it has and we just have to put ourselves together and move on… {It was due to} slight loss of concentration. That’s it. If you look at both goals that they scored, it was just a lost of concentration.”
He defended his captain, Federick Asare’s role as the first keeper of the team despite the loss.
“He is a competent goalkeeper. We all know him to be a very competent goalkeeper. It’s just we lost but to us, he is a good goalkeeper. It was just unfortunate it happened this way.”
