Annoh-Dompreh Denies Conniving with Security to Enter Parliamentary Chamber

The Chief Whip of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) caucus in Parliament, Frank Annoh-Dompreh has denied claims that he connived with the security to make his way into the Parliamentary chamber on Tuesday morning amid tensions over which side of the House holds the majority status.

Many are predicting confrontation between the NPP and NDC sides today as the House convenes for the first time since four seats were declared vacant tilting the balance of power to the NDC with the Supreme Court subsequently delivering a stay of execution order against the decree.

As the NDC side vows to “jealously” protect their earned majority status, the NPP side says the House has reverted to its previous status in their favour with the court order.

In the wake of this development, the Parliamentary Service issued a statement on the eve of October 22 outlining some protocols to safeguard the protection of all members, leadership and workers of the House when it convenes.

Among them are accessing the chamber at 8 am, screening all persons entering the chamber, restricting personal security details access to the chamber and restricting public access.

However, pictures on social media before 8 am showed the Chief Whip of the NPP side seated inside the Chamber.

In reaction, the Member of Parliament for Adaklu, Governs Kwame Agbodza, claimed he had been “smuggled” in there.

However, speaking to the media, the Nsawam Adoagyiri MP denied the claim, noting that he went through the established protocols and went early as has been his ritual and responsibility.

“It a wild thing to say that I connived is a wild thing that anybody can imagine…I came here as part of my duty. It’s not only today I am coming to work early. Every time, I come to work early. When I came, I didn’t enter by my will. I sought permission from the security.

“I asked them if the place is accessible and they answered in the affirmative so I went in there together with my colleague just to ensure…it’s part of my duty to ensure that things are okay. I got there and what I wanted, I found and so I sat down. Then they called me and said they wanted to sweep the place. Willingly I walked out came and stood here.”
