Kotoko Boycott DC United Game In US

Asante Kotoko Sporting Club have pulled out of the highly anticipated Capital City Africa Cup against DC United in the United States of America (USA).

The Game was slated for Saturday, October 12; however, the Ghanaian giants pulled out due to visa challenges for some players.

In a statement on October 10, the club announced, “It is with deep regret that we announce our decision to withdraw from the Capital City Africa Cup, scheduled to take place in Washington, D.C on Saturday, 12th October, 2024.”

“We understand that our decision may disappoint our supporters, who were eager to see Asante Kotoko SC compete on an international stage. However, this course of action reflects our commitment to ensuring the club operates under conditions that uphold our standards and values. As a result, we wish to make it clear that the brand Asante Kotoko SC is not associated with the game or any activities related to the Capital City Africa Cup,” it explained.

It said contrary to assurances by organisers that visas for the remaining players would be secured by the close of Thursday, that was not realised.

“Throughout this process, we have maintained our professionalism and patience, working diligently with all involved parties to explore every possible avenue for a smooth participation. However, due to circumstances beyond the club’s control, it is now in the best interest of the club to focus on our immediate priorities.”

The Seven players and technical team who earlier secured visas for the game will return on Sunday, according to the statement.
The club is determined to put this behind them and focus on the local league upon their return.

“Upon their return, the team will immediately shift its focus to solidifying and building on our strong start to the Ghana Premier League season, ensuring continued success in the domestic campaign.”
