Kwesi Appiah Chooses Sudan Over Ghana

Ghanaian gaffer James Kwesi Appiah has opted to remain at the disposal of Sudan and offer his services to their senior national team, the Falcons of Jediane.

In a letter to the Confederation of Africa Football (CAF), he announced his resignation as the Ghana Football Association (GFA) Executive Council member.

The confirmation of his resignation was relayed in a tweet by his spokesperson, Asante Forkuo.

“Coach Kwasi Appiah has Temporarily stepped aside as Executive Council Member of the GFA until the end of November 2024.

“In response to CAF copied GFA, he cited conflict of interest as the reason.Since the start of AFCON qualifiers, Appiah has excused himself from all EXCO activities. Coach Appiah now has only one role, Coach of Sudan and not EXCO Member.”

Background
In a letter, Felix Majani, the Director of Legal Affairs of CAF raised concerns about the double position held in both Ghana and Sudan football by Kwesi Appiah, noting that it is breeding a conflict of interest.

He was therefore given until October 8 to inform the Confederation about his decision.

Ghana and Sudan will lock horns in the first leg of a doubleheader at the Accra Sports Stadium on October 10 and then a return leg on October 15 in Libya.
