Only 7 Out of 47 Ashanti Region MPs Have Donated to ‘Heal KATH’ – KATH Public Affairs
Kwame Frimpong, Head of Public Affairs at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), has reported that seven out of the forty-seven Members of Parliament (MPs) from the Ashanti Region have made individual donations to the ‘Heal KATH’ project initiated by Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.
In an update, Frimpong revealed that while the Ashanti caucus made a collective donation on the day the initiative was launched, individual contributions from the MPs have so far been limited to seven.
The MPs who have contributed include Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh (Manhyia South Constituency), Adelaide Yaa Agyeiwaa Ntim (Nsuta Kwaman Beposo), Osei-Kyei-Mensah Bonsu (Suame), Francis Asenso-Boakye (Bantama), Eugene Boakye Antwi (Subin), Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka (Asawase) and Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum (Bosomtwe).
“We have had private discussions with several MPs who have expressed their intention to donate in the near future,” he said in an interview on Opemsuo Radio’s Nkwantannanso with Kofi Boakye.
To maintain public accountability, the list of contributors is published on KATH’s website, and the details of donations are also shared with the Business and Financial Times (BFT) for broader coverage.
“Due to the high profile of the person leading this initiative, we aim to ensure transparency and keep the public informed.”
Frimpong added that while some institutions are in discussions to contribute, many are yet to make their donations.
On November 10, 2023, Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II officially launched the initiative to mobilise US$10 million for the renovation of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi in the Ashanti Region.
Hailing Otumfuo for the project, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of KATH, Prof Otchere Addai-Mensah, said the renovation had been on the drawing board of the hospital Board for the last 50 years but had to be shelved due to lack of funds.
