Minority Threatens to Boycott Parliament Over Majority’s Absence

The Minority in Parliament has threatened to boycott parliamentary sessions if the Majority fails to improve their attendance.

They claim to have been carrying the burden of government business due to the low attendance of New Patriotic Party (NPP) Members of Parliament (MPs), with hardly 30 members present since Parliament resumed in July.

Deputy Minority Whip Ahmed Ibrahim accused NPP MPs of prioritizing campaign events with Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia over their parliamentary responsibilities. He warned that if the situation persists, the Minority will have no choice but to boycott parliamentary sessions, potentially handicapping the House.

This warning comes after Dr. Bawumia unveiled his running mate, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, and NPP MPs have been allegedly accompanying him to campaign events instead of attending parliamentary sessions.

The Minority has given the Majority an ultimatum to improve their attendance starting next week, or face the consequences.
