Parliament Admitting Public Comments over Krapa Nomination

The Parliament of Ghana is receiving public input on the nomination of Herbert Krapah by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo as the Minister of State at the Energy Ministry following its referral to the Appointments Committee.

In a notice posted on July 8, 2024, the Parliament said anyone interested in submitting a comment should do so through a memo.

“In accordance with Article 78(1) of the 1992 Constitution, H.E. the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has nominated Hon Herbert Krapah for consideration and approval by Parliament as Minister of State at the Ministry of Energy.”

“Subject to Standing Order 217(10) the Rt Hon Speaker has referred the nomination of the Appointments Committee for consideration and report. Persons or organisations who may have comments and inputs in respect of the nominee may submit memoranda or representation.”

Persons interested in sending their inputs have until July 9, 2024, to do so.

Nomination
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo last week wrote to Parliament seeking approval for the appointment of the Board Chairman of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) and the Deputy Energy Minister, Herbert Krapah as Minister of State at the Energy Ministry.

“I’m writing to seek parliamentary approval for the appointment of Honourable Herbert Krapa as Minister of State at the Minister of Energy in accordance with Article 78 of the Constitution,” a part of the letter read on the floor by Speaker Alban Bagbin said.

In the letter read on July 3, 2024, the President cited workload on the Ministry for the decision.
