GWCL Shuts Down Barekese Water Treatment Plant

The Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) has shut down the Barekese Water Treatment Plant and Achiase Booster Station in response to the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG)’s planned maintenance in 32 areas in the Ashanti Region.

This means that 80 per cent of the potable water supplied to Kumasi and its environs by the plant will be halted on three non-consecutively earmarked days.

A statement released by the GWCL on Wednesday said the shutdown will be on February 29, March 7 and March 14.

“The Management of Ghana Water Limited (GWL), Ashanti Region, hereby notifies the public of the intention to shut down the Barekese Water Treatment Plant and Achiase Booster Station on the 29th of February 2024, 7th, and 14th of March 2024.”

“The shutdown is due to ECG’s planned maintenance schedule which will affect the production Centres,” it explained.

It thus advised customers to store and judiciously use water to avert any severe impact during the shutdown dates.

Apologising for the anticipated inconvenience, the Company assured that the water supply will resume immediately after power is restored by ECG.

The ECG in three separate notices has announced a three-day maintenance exercise on February 29, March 7 and March 14 from 9 am to 4 pm each day.

The maintenance, it said will affect some 32 areas including but not limited to Bohyen, Ohwim, Kokoso, Apatrapa, Nnerebehi, Pokukrom, Mankreso, Cultural Center and Bokankye.
