Ablade Glover Says Marrying Early Was His Biggest Flop
Internationally acclaimed Ghanaian artist and educator, Prof Ablade Glover has pointed to his first marriage as his biggest regret and flop in life.
Initially hesitating to answer the question about his biggest regret in life in an interview with Lexis Bill, the artist said he was compelled to marry the lady after getting her pregnant at the age of 22 years.
At the time, he said he was studying at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).
“I married too early….It was a big flop. When I was really climbing, I should have taken care of myself and less about girls but I got a girl in a family way.”
He said he was cushioned from the implication of his action by the support of his mother, a support he calls “luck”.
“I was saved from that because my mother supported me very much. My mother took care of the girl and the child while I was still going to school.”
On why the marriage failed, the octogenarian said, “We had different aspirations, absolute different aspirations. We lived our lives. We differ. We do not match at all. We broke up.”
He had additional kids with her regardless.
Prof Ablade Glover who is a seminal figure on the West African art scene has his works displayed in many prestigious private and public collections including the Imperial Palace of Japan, the UNESCO headquarters in Paris and Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport.
