Napoli Social Media Executive Resigns Over Osimhen Row
Alessio Fortino, the Social media Executive of Serie A side Napoli, has stepped down from the post following a TikTok post last week that appeared to mock one of their players after missing a penalty
He announced his resignation from Club after working there for 805 days.
“Today, after 805 days, my professional adventure with SSC Napoli ends. For many this job would be comparable to a dream, for me it was the simple daily reality: a reality built on commitment and fueled by the continuous desire to learn and get involved.
“I cannot help but express my profound gratitude to all the colleagues, collaborators, partners and fans met during this long journey for making this experience so special. I leave the company with a wealth of extraordinary memories and enthusiasm for the new adventures that await me,” he wrote on Instagram.
This comes in the wake of the mocking video of Victor Osimhen appealing for a penalty, using a strange sped-up voice, and then demanding to take it before the video showed him blasting it off target.
The video was posted after the Nigerian striker missed a penalty, which denied the Italian Club a win against Bologna last week.
This prompted the player to threaten a legal action against the Club and delete all Napoli-related posts on his Instagram page.
On September 28, Napoli took responsibility for the video but indicated it was never intended to ridicule their “treasure”.
According to them, the video was composed to suit trends on TikTok.
“Social media, in particular, TikTok, has always used an expressive form of language with a light heart and creativity, without wanting to, as in the case with Osimhen as the protagonist, have any intention of insult or derision.”
“Calcio Napoli, wishing to avoid any exploitation of the issue, point out that we never wanted to offend or mock Victor Osimhen, who is a treasure of this club,” they said.
“In any case, if Victor perceived any offence towards him, this was not what the club intended”.
