Boakye Agyarko “Ready” For Super Delegates Voting Run-off

Mr Boakye Kyeremateng Ayarko, a Presidential aspirant of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has expressed his resolve to go ahead into the run-off against Francis Addai-Nimoh.

The assurance comes after rumours that the former Minister for Energy has backed out of the run-off race.

In a statement dated August 28, he called the reports false.

“My attention has been drawn to some false claims and reports that I, Boakye Agyarko has withdrawn from the NPP Presidential primaries.”

He noted, “I have not made any such pronouncements with anyone or any media house.”

According to him, he is all set for the run-off.

The NPP failed to get five candidates for the final stage of its presidential primaries scheduled for November following a tie between two of its ten candidates at the end of the Super Delegates Conference of the Party over the weekend.

Boakye Agyarko and Francis Addai Nimoh garnered 9 votes each per certified results of the NPP.

There are now four confirmed candidates with either one of the two candidates to join them for the final election on November 4.

The run-off will take place on Saturday, September 2, 2023, unless one of the two candidates decides to step aside according to the Chairman of the NPP Elections Committee, Professor Mike Oquaye.

Super Delegates Conference
The NPP undertook its Super Delegates Conference on Saturday, August 26, 2023, to trim down the number of presidential aspirants of the party from 10 to five.

The ten included Mahamudu Bawumia, Ken Agyapong, Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen, Owusu Afriyie Akoto, Boakye Agyarko, Francis Addai Nimoh, Kwabena Agyei Agyepong, Joe Ghartey, Kwadwo Poku and Kofi Konadu Apraku.

Out of a total of 923 votes cast across all regions, Mahamudu Bawumia took the lead with 629 votes followed by Ken Agyapong with 132 then Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen with 95 and Owusu Afriyie Akoto with 36 votes.

The Party says an election will be held on September 2 to fill the fifth place.

Meanwhile, the hopes of Kwabena Agyei Agyepong (6), Joe Ghartey (4), Kwadwo Poku (3) and Kofi Konadu Apraku (0) have been outrightly dashed.
