KNUST Gets First Female SRC President
An alumna of Serwaa Nyarko Girls Senior High School (SHS) in the Ashanti Region, Yvonne Osei Adobea has made history by becoming the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology’s first female President of the Students Representative Council (SRC).
Her defeat in the last election did not put her off as the third-year student strived to achieve her aim in the just-ended election.
She toppled her five contenders in the election polling 8,282 votes almost twice the votes of her main contender, Abraham Rockson, who secured 4,568 votes.
It is believed her activism for the restoration of the University’s Junior Common Room system bought her the recognition and exposure for her victory.
The University’s SRC general election was on July 26, 2023.
Adobea will be assisted by Nana Kwabena Nkay in her administrative role.
In a tweet, she described the mandate as an honour and promised to be for the students.
“Thank you, KNUST! We are grateful for the honour of your confidence, support, and vote. Yes! Christ came through. We believe in KNUST and the potential of its students. We will work for you.”
