English Language Won’t Help Ghana In Any Way- Asantehene
The King of the Asante Kingdom, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has emphasized that enunciating in the English Language will not in any way contribute to the development of Ghana.
It is in this spirit, he said, he championed advocacy for Akenteng Appiah-Minka University of Skills Training and Entrepreneurial Development (AAMUSTED) to become a fully-fledged and autonomous Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) University.
“When I called for the autonomy of AAMUSTED, it was not calling for a grammar school but a University that is technically driven to provide skills to people.”
He reiterated that the development of any country is hinged on skills and not the fluency in the English Language possessed by the people.
“The schools the colonial masters established only trained for white-collar jobs. At the time, our educated leaders thought that was all we needed and forgot about training agriculturalists, technicians, electricians, plumbers, and others.
“After returning to their bungalows from sipping a cup of tea in their offices, our leaders didn’t think about their fellow black brothers. Later we realized the whites were far ahead and we were lagging in development. “
He noted that the establishment of AMMUSTED will give this and the next generations the essential skills to grow and develop the country.
“We have engineers but we don’t have engineers who can lay out pipes in the ground. This school {AAMUSTED} will solve that for us but English will not help Ghana.”
For the umpteenth time, the King pledged to do everything in his power to make AAMUSTED succeed.
He said this when the Vice-Chancellor (VC) of the University, Prof Fredrick Kwaku Sarfo, together with other Management members of the school visited the palace on July 5, 2023 to express their appreciation to the King for attending the investiture of the VC.
