Porcupine’s Nicholas Mensah Suspended
The Porcupine Warriors’ Nicholas Mensah has been slapped with a year’s suspension from football by the Ghana Football Association (GFA).
The development was confirmed by Asante Kotoko Sporting Club in a statement on Wednesday.
The ban took effect in February 2023.
This comes after league leaders Aduana Football Club reported the winger for double identity and accused his club of fielding him in a match in the 2022/23 Ghana Premier League season.
The complainant held that he was unqualified to play.
In its decision, the Disciplinary Committee of the FA found the player guilty but reportedly indicated that Asante Kotoko was not an accomplice in his crime.
He has therefore been banned from football and football-related offences for one year.
Reacting to the decision, the Club in question said, “Asante Kotoko SC notes the decision of the Disciplinary Committee of the GFA to issue a one-year ban from all football and football-related activity to Nicholas Mensah with a retrospective effect from 10th February 2023.”
It added that the club will review the verdict before considering our next steps.
It is not yet clear if Asante Kotoko will terminate his contract after being signed at the beginning of the season.
