List Of Projects Commissioned, Inspected And Unveiled By Otumfuo At KNUST On Friday

A busy schedule characterised the day of the Monarch of the Asante Kingdom, His Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, on Friday as a number of projects at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) pended his attention.

He commissioned, inspected, unveiled and performed ground-breaking ceremonies for important projects at the institution.

This was after he had officiated the 56th Congregation for Postgraduate students of the institution on March 17, 2023, at the Great hall.

In all, the Chancellor commissioned four projects, inspected and unveiled one project each and performed groundbreaking ceremonies for two projects in the school.

The KEEP Building
The postgraduate building for KNUST Engineering Education Project (KEEP) was among the projects commissioned by Otumfuo.

The project was funded by the World Bank and is an African Centre of Excellence Project (ACEP).

The building has two floors.

The ground floor houses the power systems lab and a study room. The first floor houses the renewable energy lab and two classrooms.

RWESCK
The Postgraduate building for the Regional Water and Environmental Sanitation Centre Kumasi was also commissioned by the King with the assistance of the Vice Chancellor, Prof Rita Akosua Dickson and Chairman of the University Council, Ambassador Nana Effah Appenteng.

It also falls under the ACE project.

Police Station
The KNUST Research Hills Police Station was the third project to be commissioned by His Majesty on Friday.

He was accompanied by the Vice Chancellor and the Inspector-General of Police, Dr George Akufo Dampare.

The police station is situated at Kotei near the Jecaso Hostel.

According to the Chief Architect of KNUST, Mr Sarfo Kantanka, the management of the institution decided to put up a police post at the location after numerous armed robbery attacks against students who occupy the hostel were recorded.

“The initial motive was to build a police post but after we finished the building they said it suits a station and not a post”, he told opemsuo.com.

Office and Classroom for the College of Engineering
A three-storey office and classroom were also commissioned for the College of Engineering.

The project was funded by Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund).

The project is in three phases, however, just one has been completed with the rest lingering due to financial constraints, opemsuo.com understands.

School of Public Health Academic And Administration Block
Otumfuo performed a groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of the proposed School of Public Health academic and administration block of the College of Health Science.

KNUST Water Project
Another groundbreaking ceremony was done for the KNUST water project.

When completed, the institution will produce its own purified drinking water for sale.

It will come in both sachet and bottle forms.

KNUST Teaching Hospital
The King visited the KNUST Teaching Hospital which is still under construction to inspect the progress of the work.

He was briefed by an official of Consar Limited- the construction company.

The Hospital which was started by former president John Agyekum Kufuor is meant to facilitate the training of health professionals from the KNUST and across the country.

It was scheduled to be completed last year, however, Professor Ellis Owusu Dabo, Pro Vice Chancellor of KNUST told opemsuo.com that couldn’t be met due to financial constraints.

He said it is expected to be completed before the end of the year.

Statue
The last schedule among the projects was the unveiling of a statue of the Chancellor.
