The Police in the Ashanti Region have arrested one more person over a riot that ensued during the regional elections of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
This brings to four, the number of persons arrested by the police over the riot that ensued during the party’s congress on Sunday, November 13, 2022 in the region.
The new suspect has been identified as Bashiru Atta.
It is unclear when he was arrested but prior to that, on November 13, Yahya Shaibu Tia, Fati Ibrahim and Husien Yakubu were arrested.
A statement from the police on Sunday said the three “suspects and their accomplices were involved in different offences including assault on a Police officer, spraying pepper from a device onto some persons at the centre and engaging in a fight resulting in injuries to one of the perpetrators.”
Two of them-Yahya Shaibu Tia and Fati Ibrahim- were arraigned at the Atwima Akropong District Court on Monday, November 14.
“Accused Yahya Shaibu Tia was remanded into Police custody to reappear before the court on November 21, 2022, while Fati Ibrahim was granted bail with three sureties”, the police said in an update.
