Suspects In Firefighters Shootings Remanded
The two suspects in the shooting incident at Offinso that injured two fire officers have been remanded into police custody.
The suspects were arraigned in court today after they were arrested on Monday.
They have been remanded to reappear after two weeks.
Banda Johnson and William Owusu were arrested at Offinso in the Ashanti region on Monday, October 17, 2022, after they attacked and shot two firefighters leaving them with wounds.
According to the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), the two wounded officers were among four officers from the Offinso Fire Station who left for official duty in a service vehicle.
On their way back, the officers were engaged in an altercation with two Land Rover occupants over irresponsible driving, the Service said.
“The occupants of the Land rover vehicles got down and questioned the Fire officers who they thought they were to confront them on an earlier alleged careless driving.
“An altercation ensued between the two passengers of the Land Rover vehicle and the Fire officers and in the process, the officers were assaulted and shot in the thigh and leg.”
The suspects, according to the Service, then bolted with their vehicle.
The victims have been transferred from St Patrick’s Hospital at Offinso, where they were initially receiving medical attention to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi for further treatment.
Following their arrest, the police retrieved the weapons used in the attack as well as impounded the vehicle belonging to the two.
“The weapons used in the attack, two (2) pistols with four(4) rounds of 9mm ammunition each have been retrieved by the police. A Land Rover vehicle belonging to the suspects has also been impounded”, a police report on Monday said.
