Abuse Of Toddler: Police Say There’s No Confirmed Arrest

The Ghana Police Service has denied making any arrests with regard to the abuse of a toddler in a viral video.

It noted that it is rather following numerous leads apart from ongoing investigations to track the suspect.

“No confirmed arrest has yet been made in connection with the case. Our intelligence teams and experts from the Police Cyber Crime Unit are working around the clock to resolve the case”, a statement from the police said.

It added that the Service is counting on the public for a lead to arrest the perpetrator as well as rescue the toddler.

“We, therefore, urge anyone with credible information on the development should contact the Police on 0243809991”, it said.

This comes after The Fourth Estate reported that the suspect had been arrested together with his wife at Akaa Buem in the Oti region on Wednesday.

In the one minute eighteen seconds viral video, a male adult was spotted in a rural setting mercilessly whipping a toddler with dry palm fonts.

It is unclear what may have triggered that “barbaric” response but his conduct has been widely condemned with a recent condemnation from the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection (MoGCSP).

Following the circulation on social media, the Ghana Police Service announced it is manhunting for him and pledged an amount of GHc2,000 for anyone who provides a lead for his arrest.

The police as well announced their intention to rescue the baby.
