Bawumia: We Pursued Digitalisation To Solve Problems
Vice President Dr. Muhamadu Bawumia has stated that the New Patriotic Party (NPP), pursued digitalization not for its own sake but as a vehicle to solve problems faced by ordinary citizens and to transform the economy.
He made this statement at Accra Business School on Thursday, July 14, 2022, when addressing Ghanaians on the country’s decision to seek economic support from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) dubbed “The Role of Information Technology Education in the Government Digitalization Agenda”.
According to Dr. Bawumia, through digitalization Government has been able to solve many problems that have faced Ghanaians.
Veep indicated that the NPP Government inherited a problem of no unique National Identification System but they have implemented the National Identification System, which is the Ghana Card.
The Vice President disclosed that almost sixteen million Ghanaians are on the Ghana card system with a unique identity which is a major transformation.
He expressed worry over the fact that some Ghanaians do not even appreciate the implementation of the Ghana Card as he will choose the Ghana Card over one thousand interchanges because it has more impact on Ghana’s economic development.
According to Dr. Bawumia, currently, with the Ghana card, access to student loans is without the need of a guarantor.
