ECG Extends Respite To customers

The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has extended the one month moratorium to customers for two more weeks.

According to the ECG, the extension is due to the positive feedback from their customers.

The extension comes after the initial deadline elapsed on Wednesday, July 6, 2022.

The moratorium now will elapse on July 20, 2022.

In June 2022, the ECG announced it was granting its customers respite from sanctions that accompany the illegal use of electricity and urged such to report to ECG District or Regional offices for rectification.

Customers with post-paid metres but do not receive bills; prepaid customers who do not purchase electricity credits; customers who have bypassed or tampered with their metres and are therefore not paying for the full cost of power usage; and customers who have engaged in any form of electrical illegality are earmarked to enjoy this moratorium.

“Please note that after this Moratorium, customers who are caught stealing electricity, which is criminal, will be charged with the offence of stealing in accordance with the law”, the ECG has pointed out.

Additionally, it said names of such persons shall be published widely.
