5 Private Entities Bid to Complete Saglemi Housing Project
The Ministry of Works and Housing has announced that five private entities have submitted bids to collaborate with the government to complete the construction of the Saglemi Housing Project which commenced in 2012 under the leadership of former President John Dramani Mahama.
The submission comes after ten entities showed interest in the project, the Ministry disclosed in a statement on Tuesday, July 9, 2024.
“The Ministry of Works and Housing is pleased to announce that five private entities have submitted bids to partner with the government to complete the 1,506 Saglemi Affordable Housing Units. This follows 10 organisations initially expressing interest in the project.”
From here, the bids will be reviewed by an independent evaluation body to recommend the most suitable entity for selection, it noted
“Minister for Works and Housing, Hon. Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, has announced that an independent evaluation entity will be appointed to evaluate the bids and advise the Ministry on the most favourable bid.”
The Ministry also intends to publish all bids received and the evaluation report in accordance with the proactive disclosure sections of the Right to Information Act.
It added that the processes to select and contract a developer are expected to be completed by the end of August.
Saglemi Housing Project
The project for the housing units started in 2012 to provide affordable housing for Ghanaians and address the country’s housing deficit.
The Saglemi Affordable Housing project located at Prampram in the Ningo Prampram District of the Greater Accra Region was originally meant to be a 5000-residential unit facility with one to three-bedroom flats.
The project stalled after the erstwhile administration was voted out of office, with the Akufo-Addo government fingering some former officials for procurement breaches following the value-for-money audit.
According to the government, the agreement passed by Parliament in October 2012 had 5,000 housing units but was single-handedly reviewed downward to 1,500 units and later to 1,024 units.
