Four young exuberant teenage students have been discovered for the 2022 edition of the Otumfuo Community Reading Challenge (OCRC) 9.
Maame Asarewaa Adu Gyamfi, Henry Dwight Yorke, Michael Asuako and Mary Afriyie Manu were discovered in Nkawie, Abuakwa, Tanoso and Nyankerenease communities respectively.
On Tuesday, March 29, when the OCRC team got to the Nkawie community where they made their first point of call in search of a community champion, fourteen-year-old Maame Asarewaa, a student of Nkawie M/A Experimental B, was among the 34 contestants and proved herself worthy.
On Wednesday March 30 in the Abuakwa community, Henry, also fourteen years and a student of Abuakwa JHS D stood out among the twenty schools that showed up.
On March 31, another fourteen-year-old, Michael Asuako, a student of Prempeh Experimental Basic C, emerged as winner in the Tanoso community among his contenders who numbered 48 from nine different schools.
Just before the week ended, the youngest so far, beamed.
Twelve-year-old Mary Afriyie Manu, became Nyankerenease’s community champion among 128 contestants in the community. She is a student of 4 Battalion Basic School.
They were presented with a five hundred cedis cash prize each from Konahene Nana Konadu Yiadom IV as part of his GHc30, 000 cash prize to all community stage Champions.
Schools of the four Community Champions also received Ghc500 each from Tredehene Nana Nuben Sra III as part of his Ghc30, 000 cash prize to schools of community champions.
The OCRC team are now up for 56 more champions to march up to the Kick-out stage.
