3 Women Arrested after “Stealing” Baby at Kasoa

The Kasoa District Police together with the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit at Kasoa in the Central Region have in their grips three women for their alleged involvement in a baby theft.

The three-day-old baby was allegedly craftily stolen from a 22-year-old mother, Abigail Addison, a petty trader, by the women identified as Magdalene Nana Adwoa Boafo, Faustina and Eunice under the pretence of giving the baby needed medical attention at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital.

Their arrest was effected on Thursday, July 18, 2024.

According to a report filed by UTV’s Jacob Kubi, and monitored by opemsuo.com, suspect Magdalene was the mastermind behind the scheme that took less than two weeks to execute.

“Magdalene approached Abigail while she was pregnant and offered to help her financially which she consented to. She then took her to a hotel for two days. After two days, Magdalene went to rent a room with her friend by the name Eunice.”

Exactly a week after this, Abigail brought forth the baby.

“Magdalene and her friend Eunice settled the bills for her discharge. On their way home, Magdalene proposed they find a place to eat. While at the eatery, Magdalene went out and came back with another friend, Faustina, whom she introduced to her as a medical practitioner at Korle Bu Teaching Hospital. The purported health practitioner told the mother the baby was unhealthy and needed treatment at Korle Bu. They therefore proposed to take the baby to the hospital without the mother which the latter reluctantly agreed to.”

It was not until two days later that Abigail saw Magdalene again only to tell her the baby had passed away.

“The case was reported to the police and led to the arrest of Magdalene who confessed and led the police to the location of the baby and arrest of two others.”
