3-member Committee to Probe Awua Dumase Queen’s Royal Status

A three-member Committee has been given three weeks to ascertain the veracity of the illegitimacy claims surrounding Nana Yaa Owusuwaa Ayeboafo II, the Queen of Awua-Dumase in the Bono Region.

The committee made up of the Paramount Chief of Asaman, Okogyeasuo Adu Gyimah, the Paramount Chief of Sankore, Nana Ogyedom Appiah Kubi Pabo Katakyie IV and Paramount Chief of Hwediem, Osuodumgya Barima Apea-Dwaah Boafo II was set up on August 26, 2024 by Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II during an Asanteman Council meeting.

Since the case bothers on royalty, the Asantehene directed the Committee to use the family trees that would be presented by the parties to ascertain the truth.

“Assess the family trees of both parties. It’s not a matter of the successive line. Find who occupied the stool when it was first created and her family tree. With this, we can easily identify the true owners of the stool. Don’t take too long on this.”

After an inquisition from the Committee members, Otumfuo gave three weeks to make their report ready for the Council’s perusal.

Background
Mr Charles Kojo Boateng, a member of the royal house of Awua-Dumase in the Bono Region is challenging the royal status of the Queen following an attempt by the Queen to fill the vacant stool of the Traditional Area after the death of Nana Kwame Korang VI.

She is said to have elected one Kofi Ntow for enstoolment; however, the attempt was challenged by a party of the royal house in court, stalling the process.

Standing before Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II and the Asanteman Council on August 19, 2024, Mr Boateng emphasized that neither the nominee nor the queen herself is of the royal house and therefore their ineligibility.

“She is not a royal and her nominee for the paramount stool is also not a royal.”

He furthered that only the royals of Bantama are entitled to the stool since they trace their root to the town located in Kumasi.

“We are from Bantama and therefore no one from Berekum or Dormaa can ascend the stool. We trace our ancestry to the great warrior of Asante, Kwabena Kyere and the Queen is not related to us,” he stated as he invoked the Great oath to support his assertion.

Meanwhile, the Queen challenged his submission and the oath to affirm her relations with him as well as her royalty.
