29 Arise Ghana Demonstrators Nabbed
The Ghana Police Service has announced it has in its grips, twenty-nine (29) of the Arise Ghana demonstrators who turned violent in the course of what was to be a peaceful protest.
The police service says it is reviewing available video footage to arrest all other persons who will be identified in connection with the attacks.
It also noted that organisers of the event will be held responsible for the attacks on the police that left twelve police personnel injured and a police vehicle damaged in accordance with the Public Order Act.
“Also, the organisers of the demonstration will be arrested and put before court for the attacks and damage to public property in line with the provisions of Section 3 of the Public Order Act, (Act, 491)”.
The organisers of the protest, at a press conference last night, alleged persons captured in videos pelting stones at the police personnel were not Arise Ghana Demonstrators but police officers disguised in Arise Ghana T-shirts.
This has been debunked by the Police Service.
“Meanwhile, the police would like to draw the attention of the public to the calculated falsehood and misinformation being peddled by the organisers and their cohorts. We urge the public to disregard the untruths and treat them with the contempt they deserve, for the footages and images of the event speak for themselves”.
