2020 Election: 14 Families Demand over 30 Million Cedis

Families of the fourteen who were allegedly subjected to brutalities during the 2020 general election have sued the state for over 30,000,000 Ghana cedis as compensation.
During the 2020 election, seven people died through gunshots allegedly to have been fired by the police and other security officers on post.
They were; 39 years old Tajudeen Alhassan and 18 years old Abdallah Ayaric from the Techiman South Constituency; 36 years old Emmanuel Dompre and 15 years old Rita Otoo from the Odododiodio Constituency; 14 years old Samira Zakaria, and 15 years old Fuseini Musah from the Savelugu Constituency; and, 30 years old Ibrahim Abbas and Pious Kwanin Asiedu from the Ablekuma Central Constituency.
Those who received degrees of injuries were: Alhassan Nasiru, Abubakar Iddris, Paul Asue, Shaibu Bani, Jadalhak Iddris, Aremeaw Alhassan and Sulemana Elliasu, all from the Techiman South constituency.
Speaking to Citinews, Lawyer for the families, Osman Alhassan, noted that 10,000,000 is being demanded for each of the bereaved families while ranging amounts are being demanded for the injured.
“For each of the people who died, we are claiming an amount of 10,000,000 cedis and we are claiming various amounts for the injured ones in accordance with the extent of their injury ranging from between 3,000,000 cedis to 5,000,000 cedis. We are looking at around 30,000,000 cedis. We had filed a suit in June; we met the clients and took instructions from them. Thereafter, we drafted the processes and filed”.
Two lawmakers, Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Member of Parliament for the North Tongu Constituency; and Hon. Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, Member of Parliament for the Ellembele Constituency in the Western Region; on the other hand had lodged a complaint against the Minister of the Interior, the Minister of Defense, the Ghana Police Service and the Ghana Armed Forces at the Commission for Human Rights Administrative Justice.
The two are seeking for investigation into the incidents, compensation of victims and sanctions against officers found culpable.
