The Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Dr. Ibrahim Mohammed Awal has disclosed that an amount of over $20million will be invested in the sector for advancement.

“We’re going to do a lot of investments in tourism arts and culture over the next two years. This year alone we’re doing over $20million to improve attractions in the tourism and media space across the country.

“We were having 1.1million visitors in Ghana in 2019 but because of COVID things have gone down but God willing with the support and blessing of his majesty we were able to do 2million visitations from last year that should generate over $5billion to the Ghanaian economy

He said attraction in the tourism and art space will be improved through the investments and the revamp of some tourism centres: Yaa Asantewaa’s Tomb, Lake Bosomtwe, Ejisu Museum, and some six handicraft centres in the Ashanti region.

“We have to revamp a lot of tourists’ attractions, Asanteman, in particular, were going to do a lot of attractions that’s why I came to seek Otumfuo’s guidance, we’re doing Ejisu Museum, we’re doing Yaa Asantewa’s tomb to make it fitting and improving six handicraft Centre in Asantemen, Lake Bosomtwe and a few more.

“We think that tourism art and culture should be bigger than what it is so that tourism can generate 250,000 every year for young people and then to bring at least $5billion.”
The minister with his entourage at the Manhyia Palace said the mission is to advance job opportunities as well as improve domestic tourism.

He said domestic tourism is important and that they desire to see more locals embark on a tour to broaden their idea on arts and culture.

“We’re depending so much on foreigners because of COVI-19 they are not coming as they should. We want to encourage domestic tourism where Ghanaians are encouraged to go around the country identify each other’s culture respect ourselves and create a sense of national unity.
